Websites need to be costantly refreshed and completely renewed every 18-24 months to keep up with the competition and provide the best user experience.
More than three-quarters of retailers operating via the internet plan to relaunch their websites in the coming months, according to a new survey carried out by Maginus.
The poll revealed that 76 per cent of online retailers intend to conduct a website redesign in the next 12 months, with a similar proportion reporting an increase in online sales in the last year – despite the ongoing economic downturn, Retail Bulletin reports.
Almost half of retailers said they had grown online sales by at least 20 per cent in the past 12 months, prompting Maginus sales and marketing director Russell Dorset to advise companies to prepare for future increases by focusing on site infrastructure.
“As consumer demands continue to increase organisations need to make sure that they are catering for their every need,” he said.
Mr Dorset added that it is essential to ensure that servers perform speedily and that downtime is kept to a minimum to avoid losing potential sales.
“Even worse a poor customer experience may mean a customer never visit[s] your site again,” he stated.
This advice may be of particular relevance following the launch of downforeveryoneorjustme.com.
The website allows web users to type in the URL of a site that is not working properly to determine whether the fault lies with the website or the user’s connection, the New York Times reports.
