Online video and TV production specialists Shine Group have mirrored the investments in online video shown by internet marketing consultants by acquiring ChannelFlip.
Shine has purchased the original content producer and broadcasting company following September’s acquisition of social gaming company Bossa Studios. It is not felt that there will be any significant change in the way that either company is run.
It is more that both sides have continued to invest in the medium, which is one of the fastest growing in the world of social media. The existing ChannelFlip team, according to Televisual, will continue to produce original content for online platforms as they have to date.
ChannelFlip’s offering will be used alongside Shine’s traditional production businesses so that they will be able to help bolster the group’s existing multi-platform and B2C areas.
According to the Televisual website, Elisabeth Murdoch, chairman of Shine Group, said: “Following our entry into Social Gaming with Bossa Studios, this acquisition further underlines Shine Group’s relentless commitment to delivering excellence across all platforms and our determination to develop powerful direct to consumer models and connections to audiences, wherever they may be.”
ChannelFlip currently specialises in making and transmitting high quality short form videos, largely in the online arena. Some of their most notable works have come about through in house productions such as David Mitchell’s Soapbox and Harry Hill 19s Little Internet Show.
The website also quotes Ms Murdoch as saying: “Wil and Justin [founders of FlipChannel] are true like-minded creative entrepreneurs and we welcome them and their team to Shine Group. They have built ChannelFlip into its leadership position through creative and commercial excellence.”
It is easy to see how Shine were so impressed with the company as they also work with rights holders in order to repackage companies’ content for online. This includes a recently concluded deal with Studio Canal for short form access to 2,500 classic films and shows.
