Analyzing mobile search trends helped the market better recognize how consumers were utilizing their mobile devices in 2011. More people are looking for deals both en route to shops and within them on mobile – in the retail category.

Mobile is impacting shopping. According to Google’s investigation of its own search data, mobile-savvy consumers are significantly utilizing their mobiles to find deals while they are out and about shopping. With limited time and more pressure to find presents as the holidays approach, it makes sense that smartphones, already very intent-driven gadgets, will be become even more prevalent as shopping devices.
It was found that tablet possession actually increases the volume of mobile purchases consumers make, with nearly two-thirds of buyers (60 %) saying that they make mobile purchases more often now that they own a tablet.
Retail merchants have an opportunity to benefit from this trend by producing tailored shopping experiences for either smartphones and tablets. With more shoppers engaging in mobile shopping this holiday season, we also anticipate that ‘couch commerce’ will greatly affect retailers this year.
