YouTube impact on Brands and Search
As YouTube celebrates its fifth birthday, one technology publication has listed the ways in which the video sharing website has made its mark on the world, including corporate website promotion.
Many organisations have used YouTube for website promotion, with the site showcasing exactly how internet marketing consultants and others can make the most of uploading and sharing videos.
“Today, the site even has a corporate brand channel, which teaches users how to ‘advertise with YouTube and plan effective campaigns'”, PC World explained.
However, some companies have seen videos promoting their brand for not always positive reasons.
The online publication recalled how a video named United Breaks Guitars – about how luggage handlers caused damage to Canadian musician Dave Carroll’s guitar – resulted in the airline compensating Mr Carroll, as well as giving him flight vouchers.
Utilising online videos for website promotion could prove effective, after a recent comScore study found that Google sites – including YouTube – were the top US video property in December.
YouTube accounted for almost 99 per cent of such videos, which could highlight to marketers the potential returns on investment and audience reach that using the portal for website promotion could have if done correctly.
