Online video predictions made by expert

Ashkan Karbasfrooshan, founder and CEO of WatchMojo, has penned his insights as to what the world of online video has or, more aptly, hasn’t, got in store companies and their internet marketing consultants.
Writing for TechCrunch, Mr Karbasfrooshan has taken a novel approach to predicting what will be in store for online video by suggesting the 12 things that won’t happen to the field, even though many of them would be a boost for the industry.
In the rather wacky list of won’ts rather than wills, Mr Karbasfrooshan suggests that, contrary to popular belief, there will not be any advancement in terms of standard definitions and terms within the industry. The agreement on standards when it comes to pay-per-click marketing will also remain loosely tied down.
On top of this prediction, there is also a suggestion that mobile video will continue to grow strongly but that the elusive ‘year of the mobile’ won’t be forthcoming in 2012. Mr Karbasfrooshan believes that it is still “all about text and apps”. This has led to a prediction that actual revenue will remain fairly stable.
This links in with his prediction about what will happen to the role of television. Mr Karbasfrooshan suggests that television is still important to large swathes of people in the US and Europe which means online video will have to wait until it seriously rivals the power of television.
Apple TV and Google TV were also downplayed by Mr Karbasfrooshan who wrote: “Everyone keeps talking about Google TV or Apple TV, and without a doubt, they will make a big splash, but I don’t think either one will make a big wave in 2012, or anytime soon.
“I’m a ‘supposed online-video expert’ and any time I consider buying a set-top, over-the-top connected device, I don’t quite know if I 19m risking jail time for piracy or electrocution for short-circuiting my television.”
There were a number of other predictions but generally it seems as though online video is still set to grow but its world takeover may be some years away yet.
