Yahoo has launched a new homepage for its PC and mobile platforms. The portal has added personalisation options for users, enabling them to add apps from both Yahoo and other websites in order to customise what they see when they access their homepage.
Currently, the updated design is only available to users in the US, but versions for the UK and other countries – as well as mobile devices – are being rolled out over the coming week.
Described by the company as being the “most significant” change that has been made to the homepage since it was created, the move is part of Yahoo’s Open Strategy, which it has launched in an effort to improve the services it offers users and maintain competitive in the online market.
Ari Balogh, executive vice president of products and chief technology officer, stated that the changes offer “greater simplicity and relevance to the way people experience the web”. Features such as Trend Setter – which gives users an insight into the most popular searches on the internet – and the ability to update social networks such as Facebook and MySpace have been included in the redesign.
Last month Yahoo launched a new tool for marketers looking to deploy advertisements across its network of websites. Living Streams “Improving clients’ profitability through better use of the internet”.
