Yahoo! announces new privacy option
Web users visiting Yahoo.com will soon be able to opt out of viewing customised ads on the portal, those in charge of website promotion may be interested to read.
Yahoo! has announced the addition of an option to its privacy centre that will allow internet users to choose not to view tailored ads from the end of August.
The search engine company said that the new option complements an existing opt-out scheme for its third party network internet advertising program.
According to Yahoo!, the decision was made to offer this choice to consumers as part of a response to an online advertising inquiry in the US.
“Yahoo! strongly believes that consumers want choice when customising their online experience and they have also demonstrated a strong preference for advertising that is more personally relevant to them,” remarked Anne Toth, head of privacy and vice-president for policy at Yahoo.
The move follows an announcement from Google last week that web users will be able to opt out of a DoubleClick cookie and stop seeing Google’s ads on its content network as a result if they so wish.
