New SEO advice from Google
Reflect page content in title and description tags. Interact and gear content to the needs of users.
Advice on how to attract greater numbers of consumers to websites has been issued by an expert at Google.
Matt Cutts, an engineer for Google, gave USA Today a list of tips on how to improve search engine optimisation (SEO) for websites and ensure that they receive a higher volume of virtual traffic.
Mr Cutts commented: “Think about what people are going to type in to try and find you. You have to make sure the keywords are on the page.”
He also added: “If you’re a San Diego doctor, Des Moines architect or Portland ad agency, best to let people know so immediately, at the top of your page.”
Mr Cutts also offered tips such as filling in title and description HTML tags, making sure that there are links to your website from other sites and regularly keeping a blog. It was also advised that people register for free tools to help them make the most of their websites.
Users were also urged not to go overboard with the amount of times that they inserted keywords, as this is picked up by Google.
Google took 68 per cent of the US search market in May, according to recent figures from Hitwise.
