Google Suggest available on homepage
“We find that by providing suggestions upfront, we can help people search more efficiently and conveniently,” Google stated.
Google has revealed that it is opening up its Suggest tool for use by visitors to Google.com.
The feature, which offers suggestions for queries being tapped in by users and shows the number of hits for these, has been in existence since 2004 and is currently available in Google Toolbar, Google Maps, Google Labs and Firefox, among other applications.
Increasing numbers of Google.com visitors will be able to access the tool by default over the next week, helping them to find what they are looking for more quickly,
Google product manager Jennifer Liu said on the Official Google Blog.
The tool is likely to help those not sure what the exact phrase they are looking is, as well as users who do not know whether they are spelling their desired term correctly, she explained.”We find that by providing suggestions upfront, we can help people search more efficiently and conveniently,” Ms Liu stated.
The tool is similar to current offerings from Yahoo! – in the form of Search Assist – and recently launched search engine Cuil.
