Google search exec offers optimisation tips
Advice included outgoing as well as incoming links and the need for consistent addition of fresh content.
Marketers looking to maximise their organic search positioning in Google may be able to make use of advice on the best way to start.
Writing on Google’s Inside AdSense blog, search quality evaluator Ambroise Fensterbank said that marketing executives would do well to supplement their paid search activities with best practice organic search engine optimisation techniques.
These could include making sure that outgoing links are useful for the target audience, as well as ensuring that links to the website from other sites are of a good quality.
Structuring the website in a clear and usable manner and utilising alt and title tags can also help, as can avoiding optimisation tactics that claim to yield results in a short space of time, because these may be in violation of Google’s various policies, according to Mr Fensterbank.
He went on to add: “Design your site with your users in mind and be patient and consistent in your efforts.
“To attract quality backlinks and develop your optimisation strategy, it’s important to keep a clear structure for your pages and regularly add organic content.”
The advice follows recent comments by Google engineer Matt Cutts to USA Today on the best ways to get a website into Google listings, including setting up and frequently updating a blog and only using keywords sparingly to avoid being blacklisted for keyword abuse.
