Further website promotion for Bing?
Does your computer come installed with search engine Bing?
You need to watch Search Engine Popularity – it can change
The collaboration between Hewlett-Packard and Bing that took place last year and saw the search engine installed as the default browser on all computers in the US and Canada for 12 months has now been extended to the rest of the world.
An announcement regarding the continued partnership – which is to continue for three years and be applicable to consumer and business PCs alike – was made by Microsoft’s chief executive Steve Ballmer at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas last week, ZD Net Asia reports.
It also emerged that Microsoft’s MSN web page will also be included in the deal, making it the default homepage on Hewlett-Packard computers.
According to the news source, citing statistics from comScore, since its inception last year, Bing has been gaining a larger share of the market, with 10.3 per cent in November 2009 to Google’s 65 per cent.
And the publication suggested that the alliance with Hewlett-Packard could help Bing increase this in the months to come, perhaps because internet marketing consultants and other users will not revert back to other browsers.
During the Las Vegas conference, Mr Ballmer also unveiled a touch-screen computer made by Hewlett-Packard, which is portable and comes without a physical keyboard, the Associated Press reported.
