The amount of businesses which are using VoIP technology is growing primarily because of the ease with which the software can be incorporated into businesses’ infrastructure.
VoIP for business has become a massive market over the past number of years and the Internet Telephony Services Providers’ Association (ITSPA) has said that it is the simplicity behind both the technology itself and the ease with which it embeds into a business plan which make it so popular.
Recently VoIP has been made available on a number of different platforms so that businesses can use it in a variety of scenarios. Platforms include Google+ and Facebook now offer VoIP services, following on from traditional platforms such as MSN and Skype who have been offering it for some time.
Trefor Davies, council member at ITSPA, said: “The VoIP revolution quietly happened some time ago. Most business phone systems sold are now VoIP. Whilst you might still be using your old fashioned telephone, the call may well be carried using VoIP, especially if it is to an international destination.
“What we have not yet seen is the whole country moving over to the use of VoIP phones, but this is only a matter of time and is something that is happening gradually.”
Mr Davies also recently suggested that companies can halve their communications costs simply by switching to VoIP. This, he said, is because users with the technology are paying up to 20 per cent less than those using ISDN lines. VoIP, according to Mr Davies, can also save money on calls to other company sites, calls overseas as well as generally improving the efficiency of communication within a company.
Other added benefits of VoIP for business are the ability for workers, including home workers, to take their telephone number with them wherever they are and also that offices with VoIP are more flexible when it comes to things like snowy days or unforeseen circumstances which may cause an office to close.
