A new survey carried out by iContact has revealed that many small business owners are increasingly distrustful of social media and could be in need of the help of managed emarketing specialists.
The survey revealed that one out of every four small business owners asked hated social media, including sites such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Groupon.
Facebook was the most popular site within the survey with 76 per cent of respondents favouring the site. It wasn’t all good for Mark Zuckerberg’s site though only a third of small business owners in finance and insurance like it. The sectors with the biggest amount of Facebook ‘likers’ are non-profits (87 per cent) and education (82 per cent).
Twitter seemed to split opinion among respondents, with 54 per cent saying they loved the micro-blogging site while 46 per cent admitted to hating it. The main haters of Twitter were businesses with fewer than 25 employees while the main firms to love it were companies reporting more than $100 million (£62 million) in revenue.
iContact chief executive officer Ryan Allis, said: “It’s not surprising that there are a few staunch holdouts, but the social revolution is here, and three-fourths of our respondents find tremendous value in it.”
We’ve seen email marketing make an incredible impact on our customers 19 businesses, and social media is growing so quickly it may soon eclipse email audiences, giving small businesses the power to sell and market their services in new, affordable, and viral ways.”
Groupon fared worst within the survey as 70 per cent of small businesses said they hated the site. Those within financial services sector with nearly 80 per cent admitting to hatred for the site. Groupon was however more popular with professional services, with 45 per cent of people in the sector being fans. .
