Google makes AdSense ads expandable
Google has launched a new AdSense ad format that is capable of being expanded by users to display a variety of rich media.
A new ad format for the AdSense network has been unveiled by Google.
The ads expand out into larger ads when a user-initiated action is made and are capable of displaying rich media content such as additional product images, video clips and more.
Rich media vendors that have been certified by Google will be responsible for building the ads, which will be served as third-party units.
Only the biggest display advertisers in the US will be able to use the format at present. Website owners can choose to filter out the expandable ads so that they do not appear on their sites if they so wish.
“Like other Google ads, you’ll earn based on whether the expandable ads on your site are priced on a cost-per-click (CPC) or cost-per-impression (CPM) basis,” stated third-party ad serving specialist at Google Courtney Chin on the Inside AdSense blog.
Yahoo! recently launched new rich media ads for placement alongside its search results.
The ads are capable of displaying company logos, other images and video content, and could potentially boost click-throughs by up to 25 per cent, according to a small experiment conducted by the internet services company ahead of the launch.
