Email marketing firms join fight against spam
Two software-as-a-service email marketing firms have become founding members of an anti-spam campaign designed to improve the credibility and best practices in the sector.
MailPerformance and Experian CheetahMail, whose services may be used by internet marketing consultants, have added their power to Signal Spam, an organisation that brings together a number of major players in the email ecosystem.
Telecoms companies, professional bodies and internet users will work together to cut out spam emails and trace them to their sources, using mail status management, access provider relations and database consolidation to enhance the quality of messages consumers receive.
Jean-Christophe Le Toquin, president of Signal Spam, said close collaboration with major players in the email marketing industry is essential to the development of the organisation’s model in the international arena.
“This commitment will translate into compliance with deliverability best practices on a day-to-day basis and has also lead to the participation of large organisations and financial bodies, which will be an important factor in the collective fight against spam,” he added.
Members of SignalSpam will exchange a wide variety of information to flag up specific problems within the email ecosystem, as well as encouraging other members to follow best practice guidelines and increase accountability.
“In a world in perpetual motion such as the internet it is essential that the major email marketing players support and use the set of globally-recognised rules, laws and best practices,” said Mathieu Dodergny, the European deliverability manager for Experian CheetahMail.
“We believe that our actions in conjunction with Signal Spam will contribute to further developments in this direction within the industry.”
The news comes shortly after winners of the VerticalResponse 500 Awards were announced, which recognised 500 small businesses for outstanding email marketing campaigns.
Winners achieved open rates of greater than 20 per cent and average click-through rates of more than four per cent.
