Trends in blogging may seem to come and go, but the underlying topics really stay the same. People always want to know what’s going on in matters important to them, so that’s what you want to be blogging about. Check out the following ideas to stimulate your thinking when you’ve got a case of blogger’s block.
Race and religion. Few things are more controversial, and they can instigate fiery debate amongst the greatest minds of our times, while still not resolving the basic issues that create the vast divides. The Trayvon Martin case, a mosque having to take the state of Tennessee to court in order to open its doors, or the Catholic Church running interference with President Obama’s health care mandates: race and religion stir up conversation like nothing else.
Celebrities. The latest Hollywood scoop is sure to muster up more than a few views for your blog, no matter which one you focus on in your writing. People love it when a beautiful young starlet falls from grace, or a has-been celeb takes a public meltdown to an all new low. Be sure and have up to the minute sources for your superstar blogging, as things can develop and change in a flash.
Headlines. People have a need to know and you can be a permanent source of their breaking news, if your info is fast, accurate and has an angle like nobody else. Professional anchors have editors, ethics advisers and ombudsmen to answer to while you probably don’t. Take a story that makes people mad and cover it with fury that they can relate to and feel better about after reading. Be their outlet for venting emotion by having their empathy, their misgivings and their point of view.
Economy and politics. These things matter to people, because they effect their daily lives. Get into their wallets and pocketbooks by revealing a government research project that spent billions of their tax dollars on a study determining that house-flies in Uganda are colored blind. Make intelligent predictions and analyses of the political issues that matter to people personally.
Gossip. No matter what your personal opinion is about juicy, back-stabbing and kick ’em when they are down gossip, it’s a big attention getter. Whether it’s a single mom collecting public assistance while being artificially inseminated with 10 babies, or a politician Tweeting pics of his private assets, nothing will get people talking more than gossip. Keep up with trending gossip and so long as it’s got a grain of truth to it, go for it!
Medical news. Everybody has an ailment and breaking news about it on your blog will get them hooked on you. Moreover these days, big pharmaceutical companies are perceived as evil money-mongrels who care more about dollar signs than vital signs. Again, it’s what’s personal to people that really matters and will keep them coming back to your blog.
Hope. Stories that inspire can go viral at the speed of light. Tales that tug at heart strings and bring people to tears will be shared, liked and Tweeted just as much as what ever the President is doing. Touch people, make them feel compassion for a stranger like it’s their own son or daughter. Open their eyes to situations that not only get them talking, but that stop them in their tracks and make them believe in miracles.
Blogging is fun and interesting, and can also generate a nice income for you. Keep on top of the hot topics people want to know about and discuss, and give them something to talk about!
